Why Marianne Williamson Should Be President
I discuss how Marianne Williamson will stand up to corporate greed and fight for a better future, for all.
I come to you having just watched a very important livestream. Marianne Williamson is running for President. In her announcement speech, Marianne really hit the nail on the head. She discussed how fundamental change needs to occur. Why is it that over sixty-thousand Americans die every year because they can't afford healthcare? Why is it that over sixty percent of Americans live pay-check to pay-check? Why is it that levels of depression and anxiety are through the roof?
The answer is simple. The answer is greed, corporate greed. As Marianne passionately explained in her announcement speech, Americans have been duped, they’ve been played. They’ve been led to believe by the greedy corporate, neo-liberal, neo-authoritarian elite that they don’t deserve a better life. That they don’t deserve healthcare. That they don’t deserve the means to lead a fulfilling and happy life.
As Marianne discussed, the founding fathers founded the nation in the belief of equality, equal opportunity, and liberty for all. But the truth of the matter is that the image the founding fathers had in their minds is incredibly far from the reality and truth that Americans face today.
The nation is hurting, on a deep and fundamental level. Countless people are dying because they can't afford healthcare. Countless people are living pay-check to pay-check. Countless people are living well below the poverty line. And it’s because the greedy corporate elite have had their way, and they have had their way for far too long.
The American people deserve more. They deserve universal healthcare. Healthcare is a human right. We understand that in the UK. Even far-right conservatives believe that over here. People deserve a living wage. People deserve to have the means to live a full and meaningful life. Otherwise, what’s the point?
The American people have been let down far too often and for far too long. Marianne Williamson understands this. She is not a candidate who only believes in one policy and thinks incremental change is enough. She understands that serious, fundamental change needs to happen. Critics may argue that the changes Marianne is fighting for are extremist. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Marianne wants universal healthcare, universal childcare, free tuition, and a living wage. Individually, these are not extreme or radical positions. They are however, policies that would tangibly improve peoples lives. And isn't that the whole point of politics?
Of course, as Marianne understands, the greedy corporate establishment will throw everything at her to smear her and her campaign. For she is standing up directly to their vested interests. People will try to silence, belittle, and ignore her. But the people who do that, are the very people who are benefiting from the corporate greed that is harming so many. If you are against the policies that Marianne is fighting for, chances are you don’t understand the struggles of the average American. The nation is hurting. And Marianne will bring real tangible change. If you aren't outraged at the grim realities the majority of Americans face, that itself is outrageous. If you aren't prepared to stand up to the corporate greed that is plaguing the nation, that itself is outrageous. If you aren't prepared to stand up in the face of this evil greed and say enough is enough, that itself is outrageous.
The status quo will smear Marianne and say it is disrespectful of her to run against Biden. For she is running as a Democrat after-all. However, that is the whole point of democracy. If you are against people like Marianne running, you are against giving the people more choice. You are against an enrichened democracy. Furthermore, if you work against Marianne, I think you are in fact, albeit subconsciously, working to get Trump back in the White House. I like Biden. I think he’s done some good things, and he seems like a decent person. Nonetheless, he is an old man. He’s 80. There is a very real chance that he doesn’t make it through another term. Of course, I hope he would. But I don’t think it’s disrespectful to ask these important questions about his age. There is a very real chance that if Biden runs again and wins, that we will have a President Kamala Harris. And I don’t think anyone wants that.
Nonetheless, I think it is likely that we will see a Trump vs Biden rematch. Of course, in this instance, I would hope Biden wins. But it only takes a health scare for things to turn on their heads. And Trump beats Kamala, for sure.
If Biden is the Democratic nominee for President in 2024, I think there is a very real, and concerning chance of seeing Trump back in the White House. Therefore, if you are opposed to another Trump term, you should be against the status-quo that led to Trump in the first place. You should be supporting Marianne, who offers a meaningful alternative. Nonetheless, I fear people will keep supporting the same old status-quo candidates that got us in this mess in the first place. However, this is not sustainable. Something will eventually have to give. The choice Americans have to make is whether they will give in to love, or give into hate.
Meaningful change will never happen if good people do not stand up and fight for it. Look around, walk down the street, open your eyes. People are hurting. Levels of anxiety, depression and suicide are at all-time highs. Now is not the time for incremental change. Now is the time to re-write the rules of the economy so that the people, whom it is meant to serve are at the centre, as opposed to the greedy corporate elite.
Now is the time to stand up and take a stand. The greedy corporate elite will do all they can to silence us and to silence Marianne. But the status quo is failing us and has been for far too long. It would be a grave moral failing to see the challenges that we and our neighbours are facing and to roll over and continue supporting the same old status-quo loving politicians. Enough is enough. It’s time for Marianne.
