The H3 Podcast is one of the world’s biggest and most popular podcasts. Hosted by comedian Ethan Klein, the show features interviews with people like Jack Black and Howie Mandel, whilst also covering all you could possibly think of in their trademark, slapstick, comedic style. From their political show ‘Leftovers’, co-hosted by popular Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, to their Wednesday show ‘Off the Rails’, they have lots of content which a young audience is bound to enjoy.
Klein’s antics are supported by their talented crew. A popular crew member is their Swedish social media manager ‘Love’ (Love H3, who also goes by YungFika), who ‘Zooms’ into the show due to his being unable to secure a US-work visa. Love hopes increased press coverage will help support his case for the work visa, so I was happy to reach out with some questions to help him in this effort. Especially so, being a long-time listener and fan of the show.
I began by asking Love what a typical day looks like for him working at the podcast. Love said:
A typical day? That’s funny, there’s really no typical day! Sure, I have my basic work assignments like being on the show, doing highlights and social media clips, but you never really know how a day will look like and I love that aspect of my work. I worked a normal boring desk job before h3, and the repetitiveness really just kills your creative drive in the long run.
My next question was who his dream guest for the show would be. Love replied, explaining that:
This might come as not a very big surprise… but PewDiePie [who is also from Sweden]. I really, really would love to meet PewDiePie. I’ve been watching him ever since he was just a small youtuber in Sweden. I remember as a kid seeing him in our local newspaper and when I think about it, he might very well be the reason I’m doing what I’m doing today.
When I was younger I used to post gaming related content to YouTube and I did everything myself, everything from editing to thumbnails to general like social media management. And I’d definitely contribute a lot of my extremely limited YouTube success as a 15-year-old to PewDiePie.
I’d definitely also say that the things I learned when doing YouTube as a kid allowed me to kind of take on more responsibilities at h3. Initially my only assignment was to cut and post short clips to twitter and Instagram but that quickly evolved as Ethan and the crew understood my capabilities!
I then asked Love what his best moment working for the show has been. Love explained that:
I actually struggle a lot to remember all the fun moments that we have from week to week because there’s so much fun stuff going on all the time. Every now and then viewers on the sub [subreddit] will post an old clip and I’ll go ‘holy shit that actually happened’, or when I watch, for example, the year recaps I’ll be like wow its wild how much fun stuff I get to experience!
But I will say especially guest interaction will really make an imprint on my mind, for example meeting Pokimane and Oliver Tree are both two interactions that I’ll never forget!
Next, referencing his ongoing attempts to get his US work-visa, I asked Love what the first thing he plans to do in the US is, when he finally gets there!
At the risk of sounding absolutely mega lame but what I’m looking forward to the most is to just kinda relax and kickback in my own apartment, that’s one of the things I’ve looked forward the most to. It’s been such a long and tedious journey to try to get this visa and it would just be such an enormous relief to know I finally made it.
…but when I’m done with that I’m definitely gonna go on a massive fast food tour all over Los Angeles, and I’ll hopefully stream parts of it on Twitch. I got big plans to set up my twitch streams once I’m there!
Following up, and to conclude our conversation, I asked Love what his plans are for his Twitch channel in the future, and what his aforementioned big plans may entail. Love responded saying:
I try very hard to keep Twitch as a thing I do for fun, and I've been actively trying to keep it from feeling like a job. That is, for example, the reason why I don't have an exact schedule for any of my streams, I just stream when I feel like it. And I’ll continue following that philosophy when I get to the states.
While streaming where I live right now, I've run into a major issue and that is repetitiveness. Since my stream heavily revolves around eating at places it gets pretty boring in the long run when I only have a few options available. That's why I'm excited to get to LA, I’ll never run out of places to try for the first time!
It was interesting to speak to Love and gain an insight into what it’s like working on one of the internet’s biggest-ever, and most popular shows. I’d like to thank Love for his time. He was incredibly generous with his time and is just as nice as he seems to be on the show! I wish him all the best in his quest for the visa he deserves.
