Marianne Williamson vs The Establishment
I discuss how the establishment is doing all they can to silence Marianne Williamson and argue that her powerful, progressive voice should be heard.
Marianne Williamson’s Presidential campaign is gaining steam. In a similar fashion to Bernie Sanders’s 2016 campaign, Marianne is rising in the polls. Recently, her levels of support reached 10%. Furthermore, her TikTok profile has exploded with support. As Ryan Grim reports, she has garnered over 10 million views on only 63 videos. When you pair these two factors together, it becomes rather clear that there is a demand for a Williamson presidency and a true, leftist alternative among the American people.
However, despite Marianne’s success so far, as expected, the establishment is doing all it can to silence, belittle, and dismiss her. Despite already polling at ten percent, she is regularly excluded from polls despite polling higher than all the ‘potential’ other Democratic candidates (barring the sitting President).
Furthermore, as discussed on Breaking Points, she is regularly smeared by the establishment media. When she is discussed it is usually to either dismiss her or to attack her character. In my opinion, there have been countless hit-pieces, including a prominent one by Politico, accusing Marianne of being an abusive person, both emotionally and verbally. In the (alleged) hit-piece, one former staffer is even quoted as saying they saw Marianne literally foaming at the mouth with “uncontrollable rage”.
I am not here to say Marianne has never lost her temper. I think most people occasionally have. But I find it very hard to believe that this 70-year-old American woman who has spent her whole life preaching about love and spirituality, would find herself often literally foaming at the mouth with anger.
But even if Marianne has lost her temper from time to time, can you really sit there and say that other politicians haven’t? Do you really think former President Trump has never lost his temper? Or even those Democratic establishment figures like Obama and Hillary? I don’t think this disqualifies someone from being President.
Another prime example of how the establishment is responding to Marianne’s campaign, despite its success, is seen in White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s response to her campaign. Jean-Pierre laughed at the thought of Marianne daring to try and enrich American democracy. I thought she was incredibly dismissive.
I think it is rather clear what is happening. You have a candidate who is rising in the polls, and whose message is clearly resonating with the American people, especially among the younger generations (who are more likely to use TikTok). But then I also think you also have the establishment, both media and political, dismissing Marianne and doing all they can to smear her name.
This being so, it is crucially important to remember what Marianne is standing for. She’s running to fundamentally change the system and implement progressive policies like universal health care. She is running to stop the 68,000 Americans who die each year due to lack of healthcare from dying. She is running to help the 600,000 homeless Americans. She is running to help the 64 percent of Americans who live paycheck to paycheck. Marianne Williamson is running to fundamentally change the system and to put the American people, not the establishment elite, at its centre. So naturally, the establishment is doing all it can to stop her.
Therefore, I think its important to be aware of these tricks of the establishment. It’s important to remember why Marianne is running. If you think 68,000 Americans dying from a lack of healthcare is a good thing, then sure, dismiss her. If you want to see a Biden-Trump rematch, then sure dismiss her. If you want the status-quo to continue its reign of terror which leads to people like Trump finding political success, then sure, dismiss her.
Of course, I am being extreme. I am not seriously arguing those who oppose and belittle Marianne want anyone to die. Some may be perfectly nice and decent people. But it’s important to make the point, because by outright dismissing and belittling her candidacy, the establishment is supressing the alternative that would begin to solve these deep, grave, and fundamental issues. Therefore, it’s important to raise and at least discuss these points.
At the very least, Marianne deserves a fair media treatment, and to be heard and taken seriously. Because the American people want an alternative after all. And I think Marianne may be just that alternative. Personally, I sure hope her campaign continues to grow. With these factors against it however, it remains to be seen whether it will.
